Friend and DJ and artist all around awesome colleague Craig BBC Long put out an art call for a spur of the moment art show to honor the birthday and life of J Dilla – an American record producer and rapper who emerged from the mid-1990s underground hip hop scene in Detroit, Michigan. According to his obituary at NPR.org, he “was one of the music industry’s most influential hip-hop artists.”
I had recently heard an interview with his mother on NPR (in honor of his life and death) and realized I heard some of his music from friends in college. I had about a week and a half to crank out some cool stuff for the group show:
